A Tank by the Sea: My Slapton Sands Experience
Arriving at Slapton
As we drove up the scenic and hilly roads toward Slapton Sands, I didn’t know what to expect. Approximately 80 years ago, it would have been an Allied training ground. Now it just looked like a beach. Beautiful, certainly, but utterly normal. I never would have guessed it was a historically significant site. Not at first glance. Â
The weather reminded me of my hometown in Virginia, mainly because it hadn’t decided whether (ha ha) it wanted to be nice or not. The sky danced back and forth between cloudy, sunny, and rainy, but the rain in Devon is always soft and silent. I’ve seen more sun showers here than anywhere else. Even the light rain couldn’t put a damper on our spirits.
